Eric, you bore me!

So, apparently the life of a recovering alcoholic is lame and boring. What should happen to Eric now?

The story so far... Eric was an alcoholic, his wife left him. He met an ex-priest, ex-convict who provides some interesting anecdotes and insight. He falls off the wagon, drives drunk, gets caught, and now has to do community service. He meets a girl there, but nothing is going to happen between them because after two minutes I knew they just didn't jive. They can be friends, though. She has a past, but I don't know what yet. His ex-wife is pregnant, and his former mother-in-law had a stroke.

The end.

Tell me what to do next!

well... you can make the girl the long lost/outcast sister of his ex-wife or something...
you can also do something where he manages to get a hold of some unknown drug that diffuses through the skin and causes hallucinations... then he can receive (or think he received) some divine message

other than that... i got nothing... Good Luck!

oh wait... inspiration...
he can decide to become a priest and lead some holy war against his ex-wife who might be a mason (as in the religion not the occupation)

so i'm reaching, ok, but i hope something can help you get a better idea than this...

ummm. I think he should discover Corn Flakes. ;)

or, you could make him into a sort of unreliable narrator (if he's the narrator that is) and he could gradually begin to go insane. Meanwhile, the audience is completely unaware of this fact and are wholly duped into believing that the whole world is turning against him.

while in rehab (is he already in rehab? he should be.), he can meet a teenage girl who has alot suckier life than he does. he can paint her as an insane, gothic satanist. slowly, the reader begins to realize that this teenager is the only sane person in the room, so to speak, and that actually eric has become possessed by demons (hence his belief that the teen girl is satanic).

it's dark, i know. but it just might work.
plus, you won't be bored.
